As a Data Architect you will be responsible for the design, creation, and maintenance of various reference libraries, utilising industry standard principles. You’ll support and encourage colleagues in making full use of these resources. With a focus on our internal systems, you will evaluate existing internal data sources and data solutions, quickly developing an understanding of how data flows around the organisation and identify opportunities for efficiencies, improvement and unlocking insight. You’ll cast a critical eye over current practice – evaluating from both a technical and process perspective, and work on organisation-wide tools such as CRM and ERP systems as well as data held and managed within individual business functions.
You should already have experience of developing and applying industry standard data architecture principles, patterns, and technologies to address user needs. You’ll be accustomed to working in a big data, cloud-based environment (preferably Microsoft) and working with multiple complex business functions and data stores. You should have practical knowledge of integrating data from various systems (e.g. CRM, ERP, data warehouses, APIs) into a central data repository and you should have a keen appreciation of how to develop reference libraries, patterns and metadata repositories with reusability as a central design element. Your technical skills should be complemented by excellent stakeholder management abilities that enable you to translate complex business requirements into scalable, interoperable, and flexible solutions.

The Analytics and Assurance (A&A) directorate is Ofgem’s centre of excellence across specialist disciplines, these include subjects such as Regulatory Finance, Research and Economics, Engineering and, Data & Digital Insights (D&DI). The teams in this directorate advise and support Ofgem’s regulatory work across the organisation and provide expert leadership to the energy sector.
The Data Architect role is in the Insight Data Architecture team within the Data & Digital function and is core to delivering organisation wide insights to help accelerate robust decision making, drive consistency and enable self-service across Ofgem.
Data Architects will be responsible for the design, creation, and maintenance of various reference libraries and encourage their use across the data landscape. They will establish industry standard architectural principles which align to the organisational data strategy while addressing business need.
The successful candidate will assess and evaluate the existing internal data sources and data solutions, become an expert in how data flows around the organisation and identify opportunity for efficiencies, standardisation and unlocking insight.
This role places an emphasis on understanding the internal system architecture and the interactions on both a technical and process levels, this will include the likes of central data platforms, CRM and ERP systems, as well as data held and managed within individual business functions.
The ideal candidate will take an analytical approach to problem solving will work as part of a cross-disciplinary team, will be confident in stakeholder management and able to rationalise architectural decisions and articulate best practice principles to both technical and non-technical service users.
Data and analytics driven insights are critical to Ofgem and an essential part of delivering its regulatory aspiration and vision, Data Architects will play an important role in enabling this by ensuring a strong and consistent data foundation across the organisation.
This role works closely with the Chief Analytics Officer and the Insights Data Architecture team as well as the DDAT delivery teams.
• Develop the standards and principles which support the data strategy across subject areas such as; data integration across systems, master data management, data cataloging and data profiling.
• Implement industry standard data collection, ingestion, transformation and consumption mechanisms while evangelising the business benefit of establishing and following best practice.
• Gather requirements from both technical and non technical users, translate them into scalable, secure, flexible solutions which are aligned to the organisational standard.
• Provide architectural oversight, guidance, and support to colleagues in the DDAT delivery teams and the data & digital insight function.
